All 6 rooms of our Rhythms of Resistance virtual exhibition are now open — a digital space celebrating the Afro‑Brazilian roots, history and cultural power behind samba‑reggae.
This exhibition has been a long‑term labour of love for Batala London. It honours the movements, communities, and rhythms that shaped the music we play today — from Salvador’s streets to London’s stages. Each room explores a different chapter of this story, blending sound, imagery and history to bring the spirit of resistance to life.
Whether you’re a drummer, a supporter, or simply curious about the deeper meaning behind our music, we invite you to explore the exhibition.

Why We Created This Exhibition
Rhythms of Resistance was created to honour the origins of the music we play and the people who shaped it. Samba‑reggae was born from Afro‑Brazilian communities who used rhythm as a form of resistance, identity and hope. As a band carrying this tradition forward, we believe it’s our responsibility to understand where these rhythms come from, to acknowledge the struggles behind them and to treat this heritage with care. This exhibition is our way of learning, reflecting and giving thanks — a space to recognise the cultural roots that make every beat possible.
