Room 1: Honouring Our Roots

This space invites reflection on the African roots that form the foundation of Samba Reggae. We begin by acknowledging where they come from and the responsibility of carrying them forward.

Long before Samba Reggae echoed through the streets of Salvador, its foundations were already taking shape across the global African presence.

Rhythm became a way to speak when other voices were denied.

Honouring these roots means recognising that Samba Reggae, like all living cultures, exists because people protected, adapted and passed on their knowledge with care. The rhythms we play today are part of that ongoing story, shaped by history yet still alive and evolving.

What stories do rhythms carry when the instruments fall silent?

Our role is not to define Samba Reggae but to carry it with care, recognising the communities and struggles that shaped it.

In Room 2 we step into the streets of Salvador, where these roots found new expression and a powerful new voice.
