Member Story: As told by Pamela

I have been playing with Batala London for 15 years, and during that time I have had the opportunity to meet and play alongside people from all over the world. Being part of Batala has taught me how to play drums and given me experiences I might never otherwise have had.
I had always wanted to learn to play Caixa, so I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity. Learning it has been challenging, exciting and deeply rewarding.
Over the years, I have supported marathon runners, played at carnival, Christmas parades and rugby matches. I've travelled to different countries to perform, recorded a CD and even played at two weddings. One particularly memorable occasion was playing at the opening of a shopping centre while it was snowing, but the excitement of learning, socialising, performing with Batala London never gets old.

"Whatever may be happening in your life, after playing a drum, you always feel better."
One of the most important things I have learned during my time with Batala is the effect the drumming can have on how you feel. Whatever may be happening in your life, after playing a drum, you always feel better. The energy, rhythm and sense of connection can lift you, even on the most difficult days.
