How do I join Batala London?

We welcome new members through dedicated Newbie sessions at different points during the year. Get in touch with our recruitment team and we’ll let you know when the next intake is planned and what to expect.

Who can join Batala London?

Batala London is open to everyone. We welcome both beginners and experienced drummers who want to learn, play and share rhythm as part of a collective group.

Can I join Batala London if I don’t live in London?

Yes. Many of our members travel from outside London to attend rehearsals and performances. What matters most is commitment, energy, and a willingness to be part of the group.

Do I need previous drumming experience to join?

No experience is needed. We learn samba-reggae rhythms together as a group, building confidence, technique and connection over time.

Where and when does Batala London practise?

We rehearse regularly in London throughout the year. Once you register your interest, we'll share the latest rehearsal times and location, as these may vary depending on the season and our performance schedule.

Do I need to own a drum or buy equipment to join?

No, drums are provided for rehearsals and performances. As you become more involved, we’ll guide you through how equipment works within the band.

How rehearsals work

Once you’ve joined through one of our Newbie sessions, rehearsals are where you learn the rhythms, movements and signals alongside the rest of the band.

Wear comfortable clothing and footwear and come ready to give it a go. We provide drums and sticks for newcomers, and members and Musical Directors will help you settle in and learn the basics.
